Theme : “Igniting the Power of the African Youth: Embracing Unity, Innovation, and Sustainability”
This forum aims to bring together TVET students from technical universities and polytechnics across Africa to collaborate, exchange ideas, and develop innovative solutions to address the continent's challenges, such as unemployment, poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation. The main objective of the forum is to empower African youth by providing them with a platform to share knowledge, skills, and experiences, ultimately enabling them to drive positive change in their communities and beyond. The key sub-themes of the forum are unity, innovation, and sustainability. The forum will consist of plenary sessions with renowned speakers, workshops and training sessions to enhance participants' skills, an innovation expo to showcase innovative projects, a pitching competition to propose solutions to specific challenges, networking events to promote connections and cultural exchange, and a youth declaration to capture recommendations and commitments. The expected outcomes of the forum include enhanced collaboration among African youth, increased awareness of the youth's role in promoting unity, innovation, and sustainability, a showcase of innovative solutions developed by African youth, empowered and skilled youth equipped with the tools to make a positive impact, youth-led recommendations . STARTUPAFRICA INNOVATION OLYMPIADTM
StartUpAfrica Innovation OlympiadsTM (SIO) was developed by a broad coalition of partners to provide students with an outstanding opportunity to acquire valuable knowledge and skills. StartUpAfrica Innovation Olympiads (SIO) for Africa TVETs is a real-world business concept competition with an educational purpose. Participating students work in teams to conceive and test ideas for new enterprises.
We call for budding African student entrepreneurs and innovators from TVETs, technical training institutes, colleges of technology, polytechnics, Vocational Training Canters (VTCs) and technical universities in Africa to submit and showcase their business or social impact ideas and projects in this competition. Registration is open from 22nd April to 22nd June 2024. Thereafter, shortlisted teams shall be invited to the continental semi-finals on 26th August 2024, at the ATUPA International Conference, in Naivasha, Kenya. Winners from the semi-finals will proceed to the continental finals on 27th August 2024, where they will compete for cash and other prizes.
