Africa Leaders Root for TVET at CAPA 40th Anniversary International Conference in Abuja

The Commonwealth Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (CAPA) held a successful international conference at Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria from August 27 through August 31, 2018. The theme of the conference was “Enhancing Technical capacity and Partnerships for Industrial and Sustainable Economic Development in Africa.” The conference attracted over 400 delegates, the highest at a CAPA international conference, from Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Lesotho, South Africa, Zambia, Cote D’Ivorie, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Cameroon and the host nation, Nigeria.

The First AU Continental Teacher Prize honors Teachers for their contributions

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 23 October 2019 - The African Union (AU) hosted the inaugural award ceremony for the first Continental Teacher Prize. The AU Teacher Prize has been established as a means for demonstrating respect for teachers and the teaching profession, by encouraging and celebrating the committed teachers in Africa. The Prize raises the status of teaching, facilitates sharing of best practices in teacher excellence, and inspires the best possible candidates to join the teaching profession. Furthermore, the AU Teacher Prize is meant to serve as a catalyst for similar programmes at regional and national levels.

Young Ghanaian Innovator in Blaze of Glory at inaugural AU Innovating Education in Africa Expo

The African Union Commission, in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Senegal, recently launched the Innovating Education in Africa Expo at the International Conference Centre, Dakar, Senegal. This is yet another initiative by the AUC's Department of Human Resources, Science and Technology to showcase technical and social innovations and establish multisectoral platform for experience sharing on relevant innovations that address education challenges in Africa.

China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) and CAPA holds The 1st China-Africa TVET Cooperation Conference

The 1st China-Africa TVET Cooperation Conference by Commonwealth Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (CAPA) and China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) at Intercontinental Hotel was held in Nairobi on 21st June, 2019, the theme of the conference being China-Africa Win-Win Cooperation in Technical Vocation Education.
The Conference included CAPA member heads of institutions from Kenya and a delegation from China led by MS Zhang Junging, Senior Project Officer.  The Special Guests were: Mr. Meshak Opwora Director of TVET in the Ministry of Education, Republic of kenya who was ably represented by Mr. Bernard Isalambo, Dr. Evangeline Njoka, the Secretary General, National Commission for UNESCO who was ably represented by Ms Nancy Mbugua.  Key note speeches were by The CAPA SG Mrs. Jahou S Faal and the Senior Project Officer, Ms. Zhang Junging.  Among the Special Guests were: CAPA Executive Board members; represented well by C. T. Akumu Owuor, KATTI Chairperson, Mrs. Glory Mutungi with the KATTI members and AVIC international, Nairobi among other participants.

African Heads of State Commit to enhancing investments in education, science and technology

Lilongwe, Malawi, November 3, 2018:

The First Extra-Ordinary Summit of the Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government (C10) Championing Education, Science and Technology in Africa kicked off today at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe, under the theme” Strengthening Education, Science, Technology and Innovation for Africa’s Development”.
President of the Republic of Malawi, H.E Prof Arthur Mutharika officiated at the opening ceremony of the Summit, which was attended by H.E. Hage G. Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia, Prime Minister of the Republic of Senegal H.E. Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne, H.E. Prof Sarah Anyang Agbor Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology (HRST), among other high profile government representatives.
